What is a Well Woman Medical?

A well woman screen or MOT is an in-depth health assessment for women which helps to detect any medical issues at an early stage and reassures you about your health. Just as you would take your car for its MOT, a well woman MOT gives you the peace of mind in knowing that everything is functioning smoothly – especially the processes you can’t see or detect without medical testing.

A well woman medical has multiple benefits including assurance of your health, a chance to speak to a GP about small concerns that you might have called the GP for individually, a chance to speak to a medical professional about personal health, and vitally, early detection of several dangerous conditions.

Anxiety about health can often do more harm than good and a well woman medical can reassure you about your health and provide you with information and advice to keep yourself healthy in the future.

A Well Woman check will:

• Allow you time to discuss issues with a GP that a normal appointment wouldn’t account for
• Give you the option of referral pathways both privately and within the NHS if we find something that needs immediate attention
• More often than anything else, provide you with reassurance about your health with a few improvement suggestions

Gold Well Woman Medical | £399.00

Summerfield Healthcare’s gold well woman medical helps you identify common health issues and provides in-depth look at your wellbeing, as well as a broad overview of your health.

Our nurse will conduct a range of tests before our GP conducts a thorough physical examination. The gold well woman medical contains the following tests and examinations:

• Pre medical questionnaires: Lifestyle and mental health assessments are completed prior to your health check which gives our clinician an insight into your physical and mental health.

Nurse tests

• Blood Glucose and Cholesterol levels: A skin prick test will pinpoint your exact blood sugar levels and identify risk of elevated blood glucose which can be problematic if at a high level for a long period of time. In addition we check your cholesterol, helping to spot the early signs of heart disease or diabetes, this is crucially important due to high cholesterol itself not having symptoms.
• BMI: Our nurse will check your body mass index which indicates whether your weight is healthy and if you have excess waist fat. An unhealthy BMI can increase risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers.
• Blood pressure: A straightforward test checks your blood pressure levels and highlights hypertension (elevated blood pressure) which can put a strain on your arteries and organs, leading to an increased risk of heart attacks/strokes.
• Breathing airflow: The peak flow check measures the speed of your breathing, your score can indicate narrow airways and potential lung problems such as asthma.
• Cardiovascular Risk Assessment: As important as any clinical test, the assessment establishes risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking status, family history, age and gender. The assessment not only calculates risk of cardiovascular disease within the next 10 years, but throughout your whole life time.
• Pulse rate: Using an oximeter our nurse will check your blood oxygen saturation level, helping to detect any abnormal pulse readings.
• Urinalysis: A comprehensive urine sample screening detecting a range of elements such as blood, specific gravity and protein levels.
• ECG: An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a straight forward test that can be used to check your heart’s rhythm and electrical activity. It can help detect arrhythmias, coronary heart disease, heart attacks and cardiomyopathy.
• Blood tests: A well woman blood test profile focuses on bodily functions vital to a healthy lifestyle and includes: Full Blood count, CRP, Renal Function, Liver Function, Uric Acid, Lipids, Haematinics, HbA1c, Thyroid (FT4, TSH), Active B12, Folate, Vitamin D. We also test for Ca125, FSH, LH, Oestrogen.

GP Checks & Follow Up

• 15 minute GP consultation/examination: On top of the clinical assessments conducted by our nurse, our GP will also give you a thorough physical examination.
• 15 minute follow up call: As part of your assessment you will receive up to 15 minutes on a follow up call from our GP once we have received your blood test results and compiled your report.

Your results are sent to you in the form of a traffic light report which our GP will discuss with you in detail.

Platinum Well Woman Medical | £499.00

Providing reassurance and guidance for your health, the platinum well woman medical is a top to toe in-depth medical assessment with a focus on cardiovascular health and early detection of important medical issues including cancers. Our nurse will guide you through our clinical tests, which will be followed by a physical examination by our GP along with open discussion for you to share any health concerns you have.

The platinum well woman medical consists of the below tests:

• Pre medical questionnaire: Lifestyle and mental health assessments are completed prior to your health check which gives our clinician an insight into your physical and mental health.

• 30 minute GP consultation/examination: On top of the clinical assessments conducted by our nurse, our GP will also give you a thorough physical examination, as well as allow you 15 minutes open discussion to talk over any concerns you have over your health, only available as part of our top of the range platinum assessment.
• Bowel cancer screening: A premium screening offered only in our platinum well woman medical, by providing a stool sample we can advise you on any concerns regarding bowel cancer, a condition which is otherwise difficult to detect at an early stage.
• 30 minute follow up call: As part of your assessment you will receive up to 30 minutes on a follow up call from our GP once we have received your blood test results and compiled your report.
• 10% off your next health check or well woman medical: By booking your platinum well woman medical you automatically receive 10% off your next health check with Summerfield Healthcare.

You will receive a copy of your report once we receive your blood test and bowel cancer screening results, at this point our GP will discuss your results in detail.

Add a cervical screening (Currently available in Cardiff only)

A cervical screening, also referred to as a smear test, is an important test used to detect cervical cancer. It is a simple process of collecting cells from your cervix but can feel quite personal. At Summerfield Healthcare, we are proud to be able to offer you this service during your well woman medical check up. The fee to add the service is only £75.00 and you can let us know if you would like this additional service when you book your well woman check-up. The Cervical screening add-on is available on both the gold and platinum well woman packages.

Your Well Woman Medical results

Following your well woman check up, you will receive a detailed report using our traffic light system specifying green, amber, or red for each individual aspect of the medical screening, as well as an overall score combining all aspects of your well woman check.

You will also receive a follow-up call from our GP to discuss your results and ensure you understand each aspect of your medical.

This tailored advice based on the outcome of your medical will help you to make appropriate lifestyle changes and will enable you to seek early intervention for any potential issues. Summerfield Healthcare can assist with this, with the ability to refer you to specialists in various fields of medicine internally and externally.

A copy of your well woman health report is retained to compare results when you return for your next health screening. If you choose to, we can also share any results with your NHS GP or practitioner at your discretion. These are your results and will be handled with complete confidentiality and professionalism.
